Following the dissolution of the former Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana (BMAJ) in early 2022, the practice at the recently launched firm Bofill Mir Abogados houses considerable experience in commercial restructurings, refinancings, and out-of-court agreements. The firm retains both founding partner Octavio Bofill and corporate specialist Rodrigo Saffirio, both of whom have established track records advising primarily on the creditor side in corporate reorganisation procedures. A case in point saw both involved in advising the Chilean creditors of Latam Airlines in US Chapter 11 proceedings. Other matters include advising Transoceánica as indirect owner of 50% of Central Hidroeléctrica Chanleufu which filed for bankruptcy in 2017. Senior associate Gonzalo Barceló also has bankruptcy and restructuring experience. One of the offices emerging from the mid-2022 dissolution of Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana (BMAJ), Bofill Mir Abogados‘ banking, finance and capital markets department is experienced in advising on major IPOs and secondary offerings, bond and share issuances, and Rule 144A/Reg.S financings and securitisations. The team is also known for assisting with the development and filings of new investment funds. Founding partner Octavio Bofill has broad capital markets expertise, although his recent caseload has primarily involved advising bondholders in the context of reorganisations, along with bond issuance and purchases; fellow partner Rodrigo Saffirio, who assists bondholder groups and also handles capital markets’ regulatory matters, is also a highly regarded practitioner, as is Ana María Yuri, who has particular expertise as regards bond issuances related to infrastructure projects and the energy sector. The practice is led by ‘magnificent lawyer‘ founding partner and longstanding corporate law and transactional specialist Octavio Bofill. The team regularly assists with judicial reviews and litigation before the constitutional courts, as well as handling public procurement issues. Bofill oversees regulatory matters; and the practice of recently promoted director Cristián Franetovic includes urban planning and the regulation of sanitary and electrical public services.
