EU, competition and distribution Tier 2

BDGS Associés is particularly strong in the field of merger control and has recently established itself as a leading player in the reform of the country's public sector by President Macron by acting for clients such as EDF, SNCF, La Poste and Aéroports de Paris. A team including Jérôme Fabre advised Safran on its notification to the European Commission with regard to its acquisition of Zodiac Aerospace via agreed tender offer, and Total appointed the practice to oversee the merger clearance issues arising from its acquisition of an indirect controlling interest of 23% of Eren Renewable. Mathilde Damon is also a name to note and recently handled a wide range of mandates including disputes in the distribution space. The team is jointly headed by Antoine Gosset-Grainville and Maria Trabucchi; the pair are currently representing a series of banks in proceedings brought against European Central Bank before the European Court of Justice relating to a series of decisions pertaining to leverage-ratio and irrevocable payment commitments. Other key clients include Carrefour, PMU and Canal+.

Insolvency Tier 2

BDGS Associés has a track record handling high-profile restructuring cases and stands out in particular for its ability to handle matters involving listed companies or the French state. It notably acted for the French state as lender to leading newspaper distributor Presstalis on the latter's restructuring. The team primarily acts for debtors, shareholders and investors. It assisted Metalcorp with its take over bid for Ascoval, as well as Necotrans with matters pertaining to the opening of eleven receivership proceedings over its French entities. Anne-Sophie Noury is the key name and the firm's co-founder Antoine Bonnasse is also noted.

Mergers and acquisitions Tier 2

BDGS Associés advises clients from a variety of sectors, including retail, infrastructure, real estate and technology. Adept at assisting with domestic and cross-border transactions alike, the practice increasingly reaps the rewards of adding its tax and competition and regulation departments in 2014 and early 2016, respectively, as well as a restructuring department later in 2016. In a recent highlight requiring both corporate and antitrust expertise, Youssef Djehane led corporate advice for Carrefour on a five-year renewable partnership with Coopérative U Enseigne involving the creation of a joint venture with key suppliers of the two groups. Antoine Bonnasse and Thomas Meli advised Safran on its €7.7bn acquisition of Zodiac Aerospace. Lucile Gaillard, Marc Loy and Jean-Emmanuel Skovron are other key contacts. Bouygues Telecom, Bpifrance and CMA CGM also count among the team's clients.

At BDGS Associés, clients ‘are sure to receive an excellent service, including sound advice, backed with great legal knowledge and an excellent understanding of the matters at stake’. The firm hired promising new practice head Kyum Lee, who was previously counsel at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, in January 2018 to officially set up its practice. Lee impresses with his ‘fine legal mind and extensive and thorough knowledge’, in addition to ‘always being available for his clients, perfectly understanding their needs, and never giving up’. He can also rely on the support of some of the firm's founding partners, such as Antoine Gosset-Grainville, who has particular expertise in managing crisis situations. The compact team is handling highly sensitive cases, including a high number of corporate and shareholder conflict cases. It represented Canal + in a high-profile media dispute with TF1 regarding the latter's terms of broadcasting. The practice was also recently involved in several insolvency-related cases. Bpifrance and Ceva Santé Animale are also clients.
