Eubelius‘ integrated, multidisciplinary team has expertise in the activities of a wide range of domestic and international entities in Belgium, including associations, foundations, hospitals and universities. It particularly distinguishes itself in the healthcare sector, where the workload covers acquisitions of properties and businesses, and the structuring of partnerships (including related tax issues), as well as assistance on employment law, public contracts and permits. Counsel Korneel Decroix advised Emmaüs on VAT issues associated with the construction of a new hospital building in Mechelen in 2019. Elsewhere, the firm generates work from clients operating in other industries, such as media, education and technology. On the contentious side, Véronique Pertry is leading the advice to Gemeenschapsonderwijs (GO !) on litigation concerning the wearing of religious, political or philosophical symbols by teachers and pupils in Flemish schools. Matthias Wauters, Marieke Wyckaert, Frank Hellemans, Barteld Schutyser and Pertry co-head the practice.
Eubelius‘ corporate and M&A team has expertise in a multitude of areas, including public M&A, distressed M&A, LBOs and MBOs, as well as joint ventures. Elsewhere, a separate specialist commercial and consumer protection department advises on various complex commercial contracts issues for clients operating in industries such as digital and technology, banking, insurance, food and health. Recent highlights included Filip Jenné and others acting for Care Property Invest on its circa €87m indirect acquisition of three residential care centres, as well as a €59.7m capital increase. Other notable individuals include Marieke Wyckaert, managing partner Matthias Wauters and Erwin Destuyver. Philippe Mulliez and Frank Hellemans are based in Kortrijk and Antwerp respectively.
