Position

Laurentiu Pachiu is a Partner of D&B David si Baias, coordinating a team of lawyers with particular focus on energy and defense matters.

Laurentiu has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 1993. After starting his career as an assistant Law Professor with the Law School of the Bucharest University, he served for several years in Romania’s diplomatic service and eventually became the founding member and managing partner of a law firm which he served for twenty years.

Mr. Pachiu holds an LLM degree in Energy form the University of Derby and is a graduate of training curses of the Diplomatic Academy of the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is an active member of leading Romanian think tanks in the field of energy, security and defense.

Laurentiu Pachiu is the author of many articles in various legal domains, as well as on issues related to energy security. He is also a regular lecturer at leading venues and conferences in the energy and national security sectors. Throughout his career he advised multinational corporations in various practice areas and industries, mostly in M&A, PPP, greenfield investments, project financing, real estate, regulatory and government affairs.

For the past twelve years, Laurentiu was intensively involved in advising major and supermajor oil and gas companies on their onshore and offshore upstream investments in Romania. Mr. Pachiu is also heavily involved in advising multinational defense contractors in various industrial cooperation and procurement projects, government affairs and litigation in the Romanian defense sector. In recent years he assisted clients in the development and procurement of armoured personnel carriers, military trucks, missile platform vehicles, assault rifles, navy Corvettes, military shipyards, ammunition and helicopters.
