Career

João Tiago is a partner in the Dispute Resolution practice. With almost 20 years’ professional experience, he has specialised in the dispute resolution, focusing particularly on civil, commercial, corporate and financial litigation.

He has acted for clients from a range of sectors including banking, industry, information technology, healthcare, real estate, and consumer goods.

João Tiago earned a master’s degree in civil law from Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, with a thesis published in the meantime on escrow deposit agreements, with a description and a study of the rules applicable to a new form of agreement.

Since 2000, he has been a lecturer in private law at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon. There, he has lectured on the degree course, including the subjects of the law of obligations, compliance and non-compliance with obligations, rights in rem, family law and inheritance law. He has also taught postgraduate courses including the subjects of civil liability and contracts.

Before joining PLMJ, he was a partner at the law firm Serra Lopes, Cortes Martins & Associados where he headed the areas of litigation and arbitration.
