Career

Gareth is Head of Restructuring in our Dublin office. He has a first-class reputation in the market and is rated as one of the top restructuring practitioners in the country.

Gareth’s experience includes acting for formal insolvency office holders as well as companies in financial distress, secured and unsecured creditors of companies and individuals in financial distress. His experience also includes complex insolvency-related litigation. He is also a highly experienced commercial litigator focused on the financial services sector.

Gareth has advised the leading restructuring practitioners in Ireland as examiners, receivers and liquidators in complex mandates across a wide variety of sectors such as retail, construction, technology, energy and real estate.

He has also advised companies and sophisticated domestic and international financial institutions faced with challenging restructuring mandates.

Dentons Ireland LLP has significantly expanded its dispute resolution team following the headline hire of ‘top notchKaryn Harty in September 2022, who now leads department in Dublin and co-heads the global practice. Since then, partner Ciara FitzGerald and of counsel Lesley Caplin have arrived from McCann FitzGerald LLP and Gemma Freeman has been promoted to partner. They also link up with insolvency disputes specialist Gareth Steen. The Dublin-based team now represents numerous international and domestic corporates and has landed a series of large cross-border dispute engagements, as well as representing clients in regulatory matters. This has included major contractual disputes, shareholder oppression proceedings and fraud cases.
