Position

Professor Lionel Bently has gained invaluable experience and knowledge in all areas of IP law through his academic roles. Since joining Chambers as a Door Tenant in 2011 he has regularly provided advice in complex cases that require a thorough understanding of the law.

Career

Called 2009, Inner Temple. Herchel Smith Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Law at the University of Cambridge (www.cipil.law.cam.ac.uk). He is also a Professorial Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. In 2007 he was the Yong Shook Lin Visiting Professor of Intellectual Property law at the National University of Singapore, and for the spring semester of 2008 he was the visiting BNL Professor of European Law at Columbia University. He was called to the bar (IT) in 2009, and completed his pupillage in January 2011. He joined 11 South Square in February 2011.
