Career

Angelina specialises in:

She has established experience of representing vulnerable clients with a history of trauma in cases of a particularly sensitive nature.

Inquests/Inquiries

Angelina has been ranked by Legal 500 as a Tier 1 ‘Rising Star’ in the category of Inquests and Inquiries, and as ‘Up and Coming’ in the Chambers & Partners 2023 Inquests and Public Inquiries category

Since October 2018 she has been seconded part-time to assist Hickman and Rose Solicitors as part of ‘Team 1’ representing the bereaved, survivors and residents (BSRs) in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and the related civil claims. She continues her regular practice alongside this.

Angelina also represents families in both Article 2 and non-Article 2 inquests, ranging from deaths following contact with the police, mental health services and social services as well as deaths occurring in custodial settings. She has successfully represented families in associated civil claims for damages arising out of deaths involving a breach of the deceased’s Article 2 ‘right to life’.

Prior to joining One Pump Court, Angelina worked as a paralegal in the Civil Litigation department at Hickman and Rose Solicitors, assisting in high profile inquest cases, civil actions against the police, and human rights claims.

Immigration

Angelina is regularly instructed on a number of immigration matters, in both the First-Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chambers. She is frequently instructed in asylum (including trafficking claims), deportation, EEA and human rights appeals. She regularly represents immigration detainees in bail hearings and has a particular interest in false imprisonment civil claims arising from immigration detention.

Notable cases include:

  • AAA & Ors Junior in the ‘Rwanda policy’ litigation representing one of the 15 linked Claimants in the challenge to an inadmissibility decision pursuant to the Migration and Economic Development Partnership (‘MEDP’) with Rwanda. Led by Richard Drabble KC and Leonie Hirst in the proceedings heard in the Divisional Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

 

  • FXJ v SSHD [2022] EWHC 1531 (QB) appeal relating to the circumstances giving rise to a duty of care on the part of public authorities (in the context of immigration decision making). Led by David Chirico

 

  • AXB v SSHD (Art 3 health: obligations; suicide) [2019] UKUT 397 (IAC): Represented the Appellant in a reported case providing guidance on the procedural duty under Article 3 ECHR in ‘medical’ cases. Led by David Chirico

Prison

Angelina is part of the One Pump Court Prison team, and contributed to the drafting of Section 4 of The Prisons Handbook for the 21st, 22nd and 23rd editions of this publication (2019-2021).

International Law

Angelina accepts instructions to advise in cases concerning matters of Universal Jurisdiction for war crimes or crimes against humanity. She has also advised on or prepared individual communications/submissions to the United Nations Human Rights Council (OHCHR) and the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD)

Angelina sits on the Executive Committee for the charity Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights. In this role she has contributed to the submission of various urgent action letters to the UK government, as well as a submission to the UN Commission of Inquiry on the 2018 Gaza Protests, and LPHR’s submission to UN Special Rapporteur Michael Lynk on accountability in the oPt.
