Career

Eleanor’s practice covers all aspects of personal immigration law, with a particular focus on the areas of asylum, human rights, and modern slavery. Her strong academic background is combined with extensive practical experience and an empathetic approach. She is dedicated to meeting the individual needs of every client, and has expertise in assisting vulnerable adults and children. She values her close and collaborative working relationships with instructing solicitors.

Examples of Eleanor’s recent work in 2019 and 2020 include successful applications to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal against decisions of the Upper Tribunal; successful Cart judicial reviews against refusals by the Upper Tribunal to grant permission to appeal; and numerous appeals in the First-Tier and Upper Tribunals on diverse issues including deportation, EU law, and statelessness.

Eleanor also takes instructions in some areas of housing law, with a focus on homelessness and judicial reviews, particularly where there is an interface with immigration law. She has successfully obtained injunctions in homelessness matters. Her tenacious advocacy on behalf of the Claimant was commended by Mr Justice Garnham in the case of R (on the application of XC) v Southwark LBC [2017] EWHC 736 (Admin) at [42] (a substantive judicial review challenge to Southwark’s social housing allocation policy on the basis of the Equality Act 2010).

Before coming to the Bar, Eleanor’s experience included working for the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, where she was responsible for running the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Legal Aid, and for the Law Commission as a Research Assistant.
