Career

Margo is a criminal, immigration, and public law barrister. She accepts instructions in civil claims, particularly in actions against the police and unlawful detention. She has expertise in youth matters, in protest work, and in acting for victims of trafficking.

Crime

Margo has defended in criminal courts at all levels up to the Court of Appeal.

Margo has a busy Crown Court practice in general crime with particular expertise in charges arising from protest and trafficking.

Her knowledge of several areas of law and grounded approach make her a good choice for clients with complex needs and vulnerabilities. She is alert to the immigration implications of criminal charges, as well as the potential to launch civil claims against the police or prisons following criminal charges.

Immigration

Margo regularly appears in the First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal in appeals concerning asylum, humanitarian protection, family and private life claims, medical claims, and EUSS claims.

She is regularly instructed in immigration related Judicial Reviews, including urgent challenges to deportation and unlawful detention, as well as challenges to delay. She is also instructed in civil claims arising out of historic unlawful detention.

Her knowledge of criminal law gives her a particularly detailed understanding of routes to resist criminal deportations.

Margo was part of a team that successfully secured interim relief from the ECtHR against Greece, requiring it to transfer seriously ill individuals from Lesvos to the mainland for medical treatment.

Civil

Margo advises on civil claims, including actions against the police.

She accepts instructions in the Employment Tribunal, and regularly provides advice and representation on employment law matters for a trade union.
