Position

Cormac specialises in employment, discrimination, collective labour law, and housing.

Cormac undertook pupillage at a mixed civil set, where he practised in employment, housing and general civil matters. He has experience of possession claims, anti-social behaviour injunctions, disrepair claims, homelessness judicial review and (assisting as a pupil) homelessness appeals in the county court.

Career

Before coming to the Bar, Cormac was a legal officer at United Voices of the World, where he represented workers in disciplinary hearings, the employment tribunal, and the Central Arbitration Committee.

While a legal officer, Cormac was involved in complex group holiday pay litigation on behalf of outsourced workers. He also represented the union in CAC hearings concerning the statutory recognition procedure under Schedule A1 TULR(C)A 1992.

As a result of Cormac’s experience working in a grassroots trade union, he understands how litigation can be used strategically in industrial disputes and he is particularly keen to represent unionised claimants and their representative bodies.

In summer 2021, Cormac was a stagiaire at the European Court of Human Rights, where he assessed the admissibility of applications made against the UK. Cormac is well placed to undertake cases involving human rights in the employment context.
