Career

Peter specialises in computer implemented inventions with applications in telecommunications and networking. He works closely with a number of GJE’s most notable clients, several of which have a turnover well exceeding £10bn. He has a further specialism in optics and photonics, and he also works with numerous clients in this space. He particularly enjoys working with new companies and helping them to articulate an IP strategy that fits with the innovation that they have and their business plan. Clients value his creative advice, and ability to think of things in a different way. They also value his responsiveness and ability to turn things around within a tight time period.

Peter’s practice grew by 35% in the last year, and he is now supported by a team of five attorneys. This is due to growth from many new clients, including many referrals from existing clients, and growth from existing clients. Peter enjoys seeing these clients grow and flourish under the IP strategies he has helped to implement. Just a few examples of new clients that Peter has started working with in the last year include: Testcard, AR Spectra, Quantum Motion Technologies, See-Through Scientific Ltd, SkootRide.com, and The Forever Project. Peter was heavily involved, along with Robert Skone James, in the project to acquire Beresford Crump earlier in the year – a key success that demonstrates GJE’s appetite for continued growth. One of his clients from the Beresford Crump acquisition, Micron Technology, jumped 9 places in 2019 in the list of top filers of US patent applications (up to number 25) and this continued growth from a significant client supports the growth ambitions of GJE overall.

Alongside Stephen Haley, Peter’s work with JT International (turnover £13.8billion and over 14% global market share) has increased substantially in 2019. A new focus on reduced risk products has seen the client enter a highly disruptive field, leading them to work more extensively with Peter and the team. 1/3rd of the patents filed on behalf of the client in the last 5 years have been dealt with in 2019 alone.

Some of Peter’s notable clients include Oracle (turnover £30.5billion), Micron Technology (turnover £15.7billion), and Xerox (turnover £7.9billion). Wave Optics are a notable client from the UK, and they completed the largest funding round of 2018 for any UK tech company (£50million). Additionally, he has supported Wave Optics in their latest funding round where they raised an additional £10million.
