Career
As a committed “biotechie”, Glyn’s practice spans a wide range of biotechnology subject-matter, from combination immunotherapies to PCR-based diagnostic assays and with a particular focus on antibodies and immunology. The majority of his work involves the drafting and prosecution of patent applications, and the handling of post-grant opposition proceedings, before the European Patent Office. He has handled numerous complex and high-value EPO oppositions and appeals involving biologics, immuno-oncology, cellular therapies, and the microbiome, in addition to coordinating corresponding litigations in the High Court of England & Wales and elsewhere in Europe. He also advises on Supplementary Protection Certificates and related issues. Accordingly, he is able to offer expert representation before the EPO and advise more broadly on the overall protection of a product or technology, taking into account multiple jurisdictions and the interplay between patents, SPCs (PTEs) and regulatory data protection.
Glyn is an active member of the Life Sciences Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys. He is recommended by The Legal 500 (2017, 2018), which notes that he is “able to achieve results that often go beyond expectations”.
Glyn studied Biochemistry at the University of Bath, graduating with a first class degree and the Bill Whish Prize for Biochemistry. During his degree, Glyn completed two six-month research projects. The first project was an investigation into Nuclear Localisation Signals, at Emory University’s Department of Biochemistry (Atlanta, USA). The second project related to vesicle trafficking mechanisms, at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (University of Queensland, Australia). Glyn also carried out bioinformatic research into the factors responsible for stabilising thermophilic enzymes, as his final year research project.
Glyn entered the patent profession in 2003. During qualification, he was awarded the Strode Prize for obtaining the highest score in the UK Advanced Patent Agents’ Practice exam.
