Career

Carlos specializes in the legal structuring and execution of Public and Private Infrastructure Projects, including advising on various contractual, corporate, financial, and arbitration issues related to them.

In recent years, he has participated in most of the tenders and tenders announced by PROINVERSION for the award of infrastructure projects under the P3 modality, advising local and international clients on their participation, especially in the areas of road infrastructure, airport, railway, port, and energy.

Likewise, he has actively participated in elaborating Private Initiatives for developing infrastructure projects for public use and service in the transportation, health, and entertainment sectors.

On the other hand, Carlos has extensive experience sponsoring clients in arbitration proceedings derived from infrastructure concession contracts for public use and public and private works, having developed an essential specialization in resolving controversies in the construction sector.

Today, Carlos co-leads the Latin America Arbitration Practice for DLA Piper. Likewise, he has chaired the Peruvian Society of Construction Law since August 2021.

DLA Piper Perú‘s arbitration practice is jointly headed by Carlos Nuñez and Hernán Jordán, who each have more than two decades of experience in arbitration. The practice’s construction and project matters division is led by Nuñez, while Jordán leads the commercial arbitration aspect, which has sector specialisms such as mining, energy, finance, insurance, retail and transport. The firm is well placed to utilise its vast international network in cross-border arbitrations, as demonstrated by its experience in handling arbitrations before the ICC and ICSID. DLA Piper Perú‘s projects and infrastructure team is headed by Carlos Nuñez, who is especially adept at advising clients on the formation and execution of public and private infrastructure projects. The practice is able to offer its clients – which include names such as Minsur and Consorcio Ríos del Norte – an international approach to matters by virtue of its global network. Recent work for the team includes advice to Concesionaria Vial Sierra Norte on the execution of a concession contract and assisting Aguaytía Energy del Perú with a construction contract and related arbitration.
