Personal

John Kim is a Korean-American who is US attorney with 25+ years of law practice in the US and in South Korea. At Dentons Lee, he is a Co-Head and International Lead of the Insurance & Reinsurance Practice Group while also is a core member of the Corporate, Finance, Employment & Labor teams.

Mr. Kim has worked in various roles at large multinational insurers and reinsurers and leading law firms in New York City and Seoul. He is highly regarded for his extensive experience and expertise in effectively assisting and advising clients on a broad range of insurance/reinsurance concerns and various related corporate and finance matters. He is a passionate advocate who has a strong grasp of the law and commercial concepts which enables him to provide helpful advice, novel strategies, workable solutions and winning representation. In prior roles as an associate and partner in law firms combined with his experience as corporate counsel enables him to have a sharp perspective on matters as a legal professional with strong understanding of the commercial matters with his clients.

As part of his re/insurance work, Mr. Kim regularly counsels leading global insurers, reinsurers, brokers and agents, policyholders, insured parties and other stakeholders on regulatory, transactional and dispute resolution matters. The array of his experience in the industry includes the formation and licensing of insurers/reinsurers and related business entities, drafting and negotiating insurance and reinsurance related commercial contracts, outsourcing of information technology and other forms of business delegation, product development and policy wording, marketing and solicitation practices, coverage opinions and disputes, sale and purchase of businesses, transactions between affiliates and subsidiaries, international and cross-border sales of re/insurance, insolvency proceedings and government relations and policy making.

Mr. Kim also supports South Korean and international clientele in most leading commercial hubs in the Asia-Pacific Region, Europe, United Kingdom and the United States where his law practice also extends to a number of other business sectors including financial services, healthcare; e-commerce; hotels, resorts and casinos; technology, entertainment and media; education; tourism and transportation, military defense among others. As part of his contribution to the local communities, Mr. Kim is also active in providing pro bono services to the disenfranchised, orphans and others in less fortunate circumstances.
