Full-service legal giant Carey is consistently sought out for high-stakes national and international commercial and investment arbitrations; the sizeable, 28-strong practice is particularly experienced in arbitral disputes involving the construction, energy, mining, media and pharma sectors. The department acts under a broad range of local and international institutions, including: the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CAM Santiago); the International Court of Arbitration (ICC); and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). The team also has experience acting under United Nation Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) rules. The group features several experienced figures, namely: renowned arbitrator and President of the Chilean Chapter of the Spanish Arbitration Club since 2023, Gonzalo Fernández; national and international arbitration specialist Juan Carlos Riesco; Ricardo Reveco, who acts in commercial arbitrations concerning corporate conflicts; and commercial and investment arbitration expert Aldo Molinari. Its representative experience covers shareholder issues, construction claims, environmental and sanctioning procedures, and disputes related to concessions, with the team frequently leveraging the firm’s regulated markets expertise in relation to sectors such as energy, healthcare and pensions. A quartet of experienced partners spearhead the practice: departmental head and commercial and regulatory litigation specialist Gonzalo Fernández; bankruptcy and insolvency expert Ricardo RevecoAldo Molinari, who focuses on civil and commercial litigation, along with administrative and environmental regulatory disputes; and Juan Carlos Riesco, whose practice encompasses civil and commercial disputes, and antitrust and regulatory litigation. Specialising in complex litigation cases at both national and international levels, the criminal law practice at full-service firm Carey ranges from economic and tax crimes, to cybercrime, violations of anti-corruption laws, domestic and international asset laundering, and breaches of industrial and IP laws. The multidisciplinary team advises clients from the earliest of stages, its assistance covering risk prevention and analyses, internal investigations, and how to react to criminal contingencies. It additionally represents clients’ interests during administrative and judicial proceedings throughout the country. The group is co-led by renowned Chilean litigator Gonzalo Fernández, who also heads the firm’s litigation, compliance and anti-corruption team; and senior counsel Rodrigo Aldoney (a February 2022 hire from BCP Abogados), whose expertise covers economic crimes, fraud and environmental offences. Aldoney also advises corporate boards on criminal risks and internal corporate investigations.
