Lisa chairs Hunton Andrews Kurth’s top-ranked global privacy and cybersecurity practice, is the managing partner of the firm’s New York office, and is an ex officio member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Career
Named among The National Law Journal’s “100 Most Influential Lawyers,” Lisa chairs the firm’s top-ranked global privacy and cybersecurity practice and is Managing Partner of the New York office. She has received widespread recognition for her work in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity, and was rated the best privacy adviser by Computerworld magazine. Chambers and Partners honored Lisa with the 2021 Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession award, highlighting that “Lisa Sotto is a legend.” She also was named a BTI “Client Service All‐Star.” Nicknamed the “high priestess of privacy” and “queen of breach,” Lisa is a market leader who advises clients in identifying, analyzing and managing risks associated with privacy and cybersecurity practices, including advising on AI governance issues, and has handled over 3,000 cybersecurity and data breach incidents. She is chair of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee and the lead author of Wolters Kluwer’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Law Deskbook. She also testifies regularly before the US Congress and other legislative and regulatory agencies. In addition, Lisa was selected by several foreign governments (including Brazil, China, Japan and Serbia) to provide briefings and advise on global data protection law.
