Work Department

Mugni is Head of the Advocacy Unit in our Employment Product Group. Having qualified as a barrister in 1996, he practised from chambers in London until 2003, when he moved into private practice.

His primary role is as an advocate in complex or high value employment claims in the Employment Tribunal and EAT (such as total career loss claim, discrimination or TUPE disputes), and has appeared in a number of notable cases at both levels. He has a comprehensive range of experience as an advocate having appeared in employment related civil cases in the County and High Courts.

His recent advocacy successes includes appearing in a complex TUPE case (with 35 claimants), which he successfully co-defended with James Goudie QC; an indirect sex discrimination case against an FTSE 100 company, which he successfully defended that would have otherwise led to a change in terms and conditions of 1000s of UK-based part time employees; and successfully defending a serious whistleblowing case, where fraud was alleged equating to millions of pounds - in that case, the claimant was found to have lied, and Mugni secured recovery of all legal costs in the case.

He has written articles on employment law issues for ELA Briefing and the Employment Law Journal, and has participated in number of working parties of the Employment Lawyers Association Legislative & Policy Committee by making written representations in Government consultations on ACAS reform, Public Sector Equality Duties, and reform of the EHRC. Mugni is a regular speaker at employment law seminars and is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
