Position

Cynthia Cheng is a senior hospitality consultant in Proskauer’s Corporate Department and a member of our internationally recognized Lodging & Gaming Group. Cynthia’s practice focuses on the diverse range of issues relating to hotel project development. She has extensive experience with global hotel projects and hotel operational issues, and has advised leading international real estate and hospitality & leisure companies on all aspects of hotel development and operations, including the drafting and negotiating of commercial contracts (such as technical services, management and license agreements), brand and intellectual property protection and dispute resolution.

Prior to joining Proskauer, Cynthia was General Counsel of the Regent Hotel Group where she was involved in the sale and joint venture with Intercontinental Hotels Group with respect to the Regent brand. The transaction was recognized by the hospitality industry as one of the most significant hotel deals of 2018 and was that same year awarded M&A Deal of the Year Award at the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific.

Cynthia has also previously worked as in-house Legal Counsel for Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts where she was involved in projects for some of the world’s most iconic hotels including Shangri-La Hotel at the Shard in London, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort in the Maldives, Shangri-La Bosphorus, Istanbul, Shangri-La Paris, as well as numerous other luxury properties in Europe, Middle East, North America and Asia.

The private equity real estate team at Proskauer Rose LLP is known for its skill in negotiating hotel deals, investments and transactions. The scope of the practice includes M&A, management agreements, mixed-used development, and distressed situations. Jeffrey Horwitz and Yuval Tal co-led the team. Tal divides his time between Hong Kong and Beijing, and advises on a range of corporate, M&A and securities matters, and handles work in newer areas such as museums, co-living and co-working properties. Associate Cynthia Cheng focuses on hotel project development from Hong Kong.
