Alex qualified and spent seven years at DAC Beachcroft (then Davies Arnold Cooper) and Ince & Co in London before moving to the Cayman Islands in 2004. He spent seven years there at a local firm latterly as a partner specialising in insolvency and fund disputes. Alex then moved to Guernsey and worked at a local off-shore firm where he qualified as an advocate and was primarily involved in insolvency matters as well as trust and regulatory disputes. He then spent a year as a director of a local corporate insolvency firm where he used his insolvency qualifications to take appointments as a liquidator and advise directors on their liabilities.

Alex is Partner in Ogier’s dispute resolution group based in Guernsey. His practice includes complex financial litigation with a particular emphasis on insolvency both contentious and non-contentious.

Alex has had experience of schemes of arrangements, administration and liquidation applications as well as shareholder disputes and advising boards of directors on their common law, fiduciary and statutory duties and obligations and methods by which liabilities can be avoided or minimized.

Alex is also a UK qualified licensed insolvency practitioner and has had experience of winding up companies in the Channel Islands and the Caribbean.

He is a director of ARIES the local chapter of INSOL as well as a member of R3, INSOL International  and the Insolvency Practitioners Association.

Working closely with the firm’s corporate, funds and private client teams, Ogier‘s dispute resolution department represents clients in trusts and insolvency cases, with further expertise in regulatory and proceeds of crime work. Leading the team are Mathew Newman and Simon Davies, who focus on contentious restructuring and insolvency, and trusts and commercial disputes, respectively. Newman also heads up the firm’s global restructuring and insolvency practice. Bryan De Verneuil-Smith has a broad practice, handling trust and fund disputes in addition to commercial and shareholder disputes. Sandie Lyne handles both contentious trust and restructuring and insolvency matters, while Alex Horsbrugh-Porter works on insolvency proceedings and shareholder applications.
