Career

Deborah is part of Ogier’s multi-disciplinary Restructuring and Corporate Recovery team. She specialises in illiquid or insolvent trusts, negligence and breach of duty claims, with experience in distressed Funds and Private Equity.

Deborah has particular expertise in contentious trusts and estates matters regularly acting for beneficiaries, trustees, executors, protectors and other fiduciaries in relation to high value, multi-jurisdictional trust structures and complex estates.

She is the author of two leading practitioner text books on Cayman Islands Law; ‘Civil Litigation in the Cayman Islands’ and ‘Criminal Litigation in the Cayman Islandsboth of which are used extensively by Cayman Islands attorneys and the members of the local and visiting judiciary.

Deborah joined Ogier from the Attorney General’s Chambers within the Cayman Islands Government Portfolio of Legal Affairs. In her role as Deputy Director of Legal Studies and Head of the Cayman Islands Professional Practice (Bar) Course at the Truman Bodden Law School, Deborah has taught litigation and legal skills to students and legal trainees for over twenty years, and continues to do so on a pro bono basis whilst working with Ogier.

Deborah has contributed to the Cayman Islands Law Reports and Cayman Islands Law Journal and is a member the Editorial Board of the Cayman Islands Law Reports.

She is a Human Rights Commissioner appointed by the Governor of the Cayman Islands to the Human Rights Commission in 2020 and a member of the Cayman Islands Criminal Justice Reform Committee. As a member of the Sentencing Guidelines Sub-Committee, Deborah has taken a leading role in drafting Cayman Islands Sentencing Guidelines.
