Position

Jonathan’s practice areas include commercial contracts and disputes, regulatory matters, insolvency/restructuring and media work for UK and Asia based clients. Jonathan has acted for a well known environmental group in the first Judicial Review of the Hong Kong Government regarding development in a Country Park, and for listed companies, airlines, banks, trading businesses, and individuals in a wide variety of disputes.

Jonathan has acted in shareholder disputes, advised the directors of a collapsed Hong Kong merchant bank, advised a US listed media company in investigating and preparing factual reports for the purposes of compliance with the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, advised the employees of a European Bank under investigation by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, acted for an individual in defending two sets of libel proceedings arising out of an unsuccessful takeover offer, acted for the victims of fraud and corruption in civil proceedings, and for individuals with claims against  financial advisers.

Career

Jonathan trained at Richards Butler (now US firm Reed Smith) in London and Hong Kong. He was a partner in the firm’s Hong Kong commercial litigation department from 1997 to 2012.

Jonathan has dual qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales (in 1991) and in Hong Kong (in 1992).
