Career

Helena is a chartered legal executive and team leader in the clinical negligence practice. She has specialised solely in clinical negligence litigation since 2008.She has been part of the Hudgell Solicitors Clinical Negligence team since 2013 and has a strong focus on fatal cases, surgical errors, delayed cancer diagnosis, birth injuries, and obstetric and gynaecological cases.
People seek out Helena’s expertise and advice when considering taking legal action against NHS Trusts and other as she has significant experience in holding them to account and identifying failings to provide acceptable standards of care to patients and their families.

Significant cases
Of the many serious Helena has run, one of the most significant was a lady who died of septic shock after she suffered multi-organ failure in the days after having weight-loss surgery. Her condition had clearly deteriorated over a two day period after surgery and these clear signs were ignored by both nursing and medical staff. As a result, the opportunity to intervene was lost.
Four failings in her care were accepted by the NHS Trust following our representation on behalf of her family and it was determined that had certain actions been taken, on the balance of probabilities, she would have survived.
This was obviously very distressing for the lady’s family, but it was a case in which Helena was very determined to get answers, an apology and the right level of damages for them. It was such a tragic and avoidable loss of life.
