Career

Jehad Mustafa is an English-qualified barrister and international dispute resolution specialist.  He has advised and acted for numerous States and corporates in complex disputes.  He is an experienced advocate with excellent forensic skills. He is ranked in Legal 500 as a key lawyer at Volterra Fietta and a “true star”.

Jehad has unmatched experience acting for States and embassies in sovereign immunity cases before English courts and tribunals, including the High Court, the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeals Tribunal.  He has advised and acted for numerous states including the USA, the UAE, the UK, Croatia, Bahrain, Kenya and Ghana as well as major international private entities in contentious and non-contentious cases. These matters have involved such issues as financial services, oil & gas, fraud, maritime delimitation, sanctions, construction and mining rights. He has acted in numerous investment treaty arbitrations under the ICSID and UNCITRAL rules, as well as matters before the International Court of Justice.

Jehad has strong links to the Middle East business community and has an established professional network in the region.  He is committed to providing the highest standards of client care at all times.

Prior to joining Volterra Fietta, Jehad worked at a major UK regulator and practised as a barrister with a highly regarded London Chambers.  He has appeared across a range of courts and tribunals including ICSID, the Crown Court, the High Court and the Court of Appeal, where he was praised for his “compelling” advocacy.

His practice at the Bar involved advising UK Government departments, including Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and the Crown Prosecution Service. He then joined the dispute resolution department of a top-tier offshore commercial law firm where he advised on high-value commercial litigation as an attorney-at-law.

Jehad regularly provides training on PIL issues to governments around the world and is a speaker at events and seminars on arbitration and advocacy. He is a member of The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in London.  He is admitted to the Bar of England and Wales, and as an Attorney-at-law in the Cayman Islands (non-practising).
