Sarah Louise Walker
Position
Sarah heads up the wills, trusts, and estates team in the Birmingham office and also covers the London and Leicester offices. She is a full member of the Society and Trust and Estate Practitioners. Sarah is a Private Client specialist and advises on all tax planning, Trusts, Wills and probate matters putting her client’s needs first.
She is experienced in all areas of lifetime and post-death tax planning to achieve a positive end result for the client. She works closely with the Owner Managed Business and Family teams offering a holistic approach to succession planning through the generations with family businesses.
She particularly specialises in complicated high net worth estates and contentious probate and trust matters providing guidance in respect of invalid Wills, Proprietary Estoppel and Inheritance Act claims and also in respect of breaches of Trust and claims against Trustees.
Sarah has also practised as a property lawyer during her career and has a strong interest in trusts involving land and is able to advise on the tax implications surrounding these both for family trusts and groups of land owners looking to promote development land.
She handles Court of Protection cases, offering assistance not just with Lasting Powers of Attorneys and Deputyship orders but also the ancillary Court applications including Statutory Wills and Inheritance Tax planning for Court of Protection clients.
As well as administering UK Trusts and Estates, Sarah also has cross-border knowledge including EU inheritance and succession planning. She has worked extensively dealing with the UK estates of ex-patriots now living in New Zealand and Australia, providing both an administrations service for their UK assets and also advising on Inheritance Tax in these cases. She has also worked with a number of non domiciled clients both in the EU and outside of the EU with extensive UK estates and advising on their inheritance and succession planning.
