Career

Russell has extensive experience conducting commercial litigation and providing advice and litigation strategies on a range of legal issues. Russell has particular expertise in professional indemnity/commercial litigation – defending claims against solicitors and barristers, accountants, auditors, investment bankers, financial brokers, real estate agents, surveyors and engineers.  Russell also has a particular expertise in acting for solicitors and barristers, chartered accountants and auditors defending disciplinary complaint/regulatory investigations and proceedings.

After working for two years in a large commercial law firm in Auckland, Russell moved to Sydney. He practiced in Sydney in a leading Australian commercial and insurance firm for over ten years before returning to New Zealand. Russell joined Fee Langstone (formerly Jones Fee) in September 2010.  He was promoted to Partner in February 2019.

Russell heads up the firm’s specialist accountant and auditor claims team.  He regularly acts in relation to claims and proceedings brought against solicitors and barristers.

Russell is admitted to practice in the High Court of New Zealand, the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Federal and High Courts of Australia.
