Career
Ian is a partner in TSMP’s Dispute Resolution department, and heads its Employment & Labour practice. His practice in civil litigation and international arbitration encompasses a diverse range of corporate and commercial disputes. His practice has a specific emphasis on all aspects of employment & labour law, particularly on issues of non-competition and confidentiality, data protection, transfer of employment, dismissal, protection from harassment and industrial relations. His recent cases include successfully acting as lead counsel for DHL Global Forwarding in High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings over the RECJA enforcement of a Malaysian judgment (DHL Global Forwarding (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd v Mactus (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd [2013] 4 SLR 781), representing a large Indonesian listed group in a USD 11 million ICC International Arbitration against a major healthcare multinational over a pharmaceutical distributorship dispute, and acting as lead counsel for a Rio Tinto linked individual in a High Court suit which resulted in a landmark unjust enrichment ruling (Cavenagh Investment Pte Ltd v Kaushik Rajiv [2013] 2 SLR 543). Ian’s clients include MNCs, regional conglomerates, listcos and banks; such as Citibank, DHL, Emerson, IBM and TE Connectivity.
