Amberley is a Senior Associate in our Public Law and Dispute Resolution team. In January 2023 she re-joined Dentons in New Zealand after spending several years in London where she worked in-house for a medical regulator and the UK Government Legal Department, as well as UK law firms.

Amberley is an experienced civil litigator with a broad practice including public, private, commercial and regulatory law. She has particular experience in defamation, privacy, health and social care, professional regulatory matters, contractual disputes, judicial review, art litigation and title disputes. She also specialises in helping clients navigate information law issues, including working with the Privacy Act, Official Information Act, and Harmful Digital Communications Act, as well as privacy and cyber breaches.

Amberley advises clients throughout the entire dispute resolution process and has assisted clients to resolve disputes by mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. At the other end of the spectrum, she has appeared as Counsel in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as a range of Tribunals including the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal and Waitangi Tribunal.

Aside from dispute resolution, Amberley’s practice focuses on advising on a variety of public law issues including decision-making processes, the exercise of statutory powers and duties, navigating the relevant regulatory framework and judicial review. She regularly advises government agencies, crown entities, professional regulatory bodies and other public sector agencies.

Amberley has a particular interest in professional regulatory work and has advised and acted for various organisations and individuals both here and in the UK. In addition to advising regulatory clients on their processes and systems, she also represents them in regulatory prosecutions.

Amberley’s experience across different jurisdictions and organisations has refined her ability to understand a client’s underlying drivers and provide practical and strategic advice which helps clients achieve the best possible outcome.
