The energy and natural resources practice at Norton Rose Fulbright continues to take strides, leveraging its international strengths to position itself as an ever more frequent participant in key Mexico-related transactions and developments across the power, renewables, hydrocarbons and mining segments, advising sponsors and lenders. The full-service firm’s local ten-strong local team is deeply knowledgeable about Mexico’s energy market and has ample experience in M&A, financing, project development and regulatory matters both locally and in relation to cross border matters. The team is co-led by partners César Fernández G, a former projects and business vice-president at PEMEX, who oversaw the team that provided legal guidance for implementing Mexico’s 2014 energy reforms; Raquel Bierzwinsky, who advises companies, sponsors, developers and financial institutions on project development and finance, international finance, and energy, infrastructure and mining sector M&A; and Hernán González Estrada who experience stretches across project finance, public procurement, regulatory and antitrust matters. Additional expertise and support is provided by senior associates Itzell Méndez, who focuses on transactional, commercial and regulatory aspects; her previous experience includes as LatAm regional general counsel at Gamesa and deputy legal head of projects business, regulation and international matters at PEMEX; and projects and regulatory specialist Carlos Campuzano, whose past experience includes time spent handling both legal and commercial matters at GDF Suez and who focuses his practice on power, renewable energy, natural gas and energy regulation; and senior counsel Liliana Anzaldúa, a former PEMEX commercial vice-president for logistics, whose practice is centred on transactional matters in the hydrocarbons sector.
