Position

Emmelie is partner within Faros, handling EU and domestic competition law matters. She heads the abuse of dominance, horizontal agreements and cartels practice within Faros. Her experience further extends to merger control and distribution agreements in which areas she frequently assists clients. She was/is involved in – among others – a number of (ongoing) investigations on both the EU and the Belgian level in respect of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU (and the Belgian equivalents) and merger control proceedings, and provides high-level strategic advice on complex matters, including on collaboration projects with competitors, rebate schemes and information exchanges.

Emmelie is a trainer within the compliance team of Faros. In this context, she also develops tailor-made competition law compliance trainings for Belgian and international businesses.

Emmelie regularly publishes in the field of competition law. One of her latest publications is a practical handbook (377 p.) on Belgian competition law in the “Bos door de bomen” series of which she is a co-author. Her most recent publication is “Horizontal Agreements – Block Exemptions & Horizontal Guidelines – Toolbook for Practitioners” (LeA Publishers) on the revised Horizontal Block Exemption Regulations on R&D and Specialisation agreements (‘HBERs’) and the revised 2023 Horizontal Guidelines. She wrote this book together with Faros partners Frank Wijckmans, Maaike Visser and Karolien Francken and with Faros Associate Annemie Van de Vliet and Faros consultant Morgane Smets. This book contains the new legislation with indications of key words in bold, as well as a practical Q&A.

In addition to her competition law practice, Emmelie advises clients on general business law matters, and practices general litigation, with a particular focus on arbitration. Emmelie has particular expertise in the retail sector, as well as in media, IT and pharma.

In September 2022, she co-founded together with Frank Wijckmans, Maaike Visser, Anouk Focquet and Karolien Francken the boutique law firm Faros. The decision to start a boutique firm was prompted by the strategic choice for the future to enter the market with a very focused approach towards competition, data protection and compliance. Emmelie is partner at Faros.
