Position

In 2017, Erin obtained a First Class Honours degree and Masters in Law at Northumbria University. Erin completed the BPTC throughout her degree and attained a Very Competent. She continues to mentor students currently undertaking the BPTC.

Erin worked for the Ministry of Justice, as one of the youngest legal advisers in the country before pursuing a career at the bar.

Throughout her practice, Erin has experience of prosecuting and defending in all types of criminal proceedings. Erin is instructed in both the Magistrates and the Crown Court.  Her practice is steered towards a criminal defence. She is described as approachable with clients.

Last year, Erin gained a Direct Access Qualification.

Career

Erin joins chambers with a previous career in law. Erin started her career as a legal adviser to the Magistrates in North Yorkshire. Her main function was to advise on procedure, points of law and evidence during criminal trials, most commonly the hearsay provisions, abuse of process arguments and self-defence. She also assisted unrepresented Defendants to put forward their mitigation and cross examine witnesses in trials.

Erin left the Ministry of Justice to pursue a career at the bar. Since then, Erin has successfully prosecuted a large volume of cases in the Magistrates Court from minor traffic offences to theft, burglary, and offences of a sexual and violent nature. Erin is regularly instructed by CPS for complex case unit matters involving vulnerable witnesses.

The Crown Court is Erin’s focus. She is regularly instructed as defence counsel to conduct trials and sentencing hearings. She has acted in cases involving drugs, weapons, dishonest offences, and serious sexual offences.

Erin has prosecuted a number of complex committal for sentences and appeals against conviction and sentence.
