Position

Gunvor Sundgaard Happe is a founding partner at Sundgaard Advokater. She is highly regarded and utmost experienced in all aspects of insolvency and restructuring and has worked in the area for more than 17 years.

Career

For more than 11 years, Gunvor has been working as an attorney-at-law – the last year as partner – at Kammeradvokaten/the law firm Poul Schmith, the legal advisor to the Danish Government. During these years Gunvor handled a multitude of complex bankruptcies and cases in the field of insolvency. A noticeable case was the handling of the bankruptcy estate of the large bank, Amagerbanken A/S, where Gunvor held a co-leading role – a role which involved handling many complex issues within all aspects of insolvency, validity of securities, complex litigation issues, including issues regarding the banks senior funding from foreign banks.

Gunvor studied law at the University of Copenhagen and studied in England (Southampton) for two semesters.

Memberships

In November 2018, at the age of just 39, Gunvor was announced as the youngest permanent administrator with the Bankruptcy Division of the Danish Maritime and Commercial Court—she is still the youngest of the 18 permanent administrators currently appointed.

Gunvor is eminently experienced in litigation and is a board member of The Danish Association of Litigation Attorneys. Another noteworthy case during her time at Poul Schmith was when Gunvor was held a co-leading position in the liability case against the board members, bank management, and auditor of the distressed bank, EBH Bank A/S. The court case is one of the biggest liability cases in Denmark in the last 10 years. Gunvor has also assisted the English state (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC)) with a larger lawsuit regarding the recovery of a major dispute claimed damages because of VAT fraud.

Gunvor is also a specialized lecturer in restructuring and bankruptcy proceedings at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and lecturing accountants that are participating in the Master’s degree (cand.merc.aud) in the subject of Insolvency. Since 2018, Gunvor has been one of the co-founders and board members of the non-profit legal aid “Erhvervsjuridisk Retshjælp” whose main purpose is to offer legal aid to Danish entrepreneurs.

Since January 2021 to July 2022 Gunvor has been appointed in over 330 bankruptcy proceedings.
