Career
Qualified in Western Australia, Richard has been living and practicing law in South East Asia since 2007. Prior to that, Richard worked in Perth, Australia for a premier Australian (now Magic Circle) law firm. As the Managing Partner for KPMG’s member law firm in Vietnam and Cambodia, Richard is responsible for the day to day operations of KPMG Law, one of Vietnam’s leading law practices (and recognised by Asian Legal Business as the Rising Law Firm of the year for South East Asia in 2022).
Richard has extensive experience in advising on a broad range of corporate and commercial engagements and cross-border M&A transactions, with significant experience in acting for both sellers and purchasers in transactions in Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Hong Kong and the Philippines, with a particular focus on the real estate, manufacturing and mining sectors. Richard also has experience in acting for clients in respect of limited and non-recourse financing and general corporate finance transactions, commercial litigation, international arbitration and insolvency.

A strength of the group is its ability to leverage the wealth of utensils in its global brand to competently provide holistic advice including due diligence and deal structure work, as well as contract drafting and share purchase agreement negotiations. Richard Stapley-Oh sits at the helm of the practice and largely focuses on helping real estate developers on their investments in and outside of Vietnam. Binh Duy Tran’s work spans both regulatory and compliance advice, whereas Pham Huynh Ngoc Han is responsible for fronting the firm’s most complex real estate transactions due to her M&A expertise.
