Amit has an experience of more than 21 years in litigation and arbitration practice. Prior to AQUILAW, he was leading the litigation team in Meharia & Co., Solicitors. He primarily appears before the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta and various Tribunals and District Courts in the State of West Bengal. He has been advising and representing Oil Marketing Companies for several years. His practice areas include Litigation, Arbitration, Property Disputes, Family Disputes, Corporate Laws, Government Tenders and Banking Laws.

The following are some of the landmark cases handled by him:

Represented Oil Marketing companies since the year 2007 in major cases concerning the oil and petroleum industry. Successfully defended Indian Oil Corporation Limited in major litigation and arbitration proceedings.

Advised various Public Sector Undertakings, both State and Union and represented them in litigation and arbitration.

Represented a Korean business entity in an admiralty dispute against the Vietnamese Government and recovered a claim of more than INR 20 Crores by instituting an admiralty suit before the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta.

Represented a leading manufacturer of defence surveillance equipment in a challenge to an order of ban imposed by the Defence Ministry, which got quashed by the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta.

After consistently pursuing litigation for several years before the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, he has succeeded in claiming refund of excess price charged over and above notified price of different grade of coal by Eastern Coalfields Limited from various hard coke consumers.

Advised Haldia Development Authority in major policy decision relating to allotment of public land to private entities to set up new industries in the district of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal. Defended Haldia Development Authority in major litigation and arbitration proceedings.
