Career

Jaime Espinosa de los Monteros is well-versed in tax law in Mexico. With a career spanning nearly 25 years, he relies on his vast knowledge of transactional issues, constitutional, and administrative litigation to advise clients on state and federal taxes, international double taxation, mergers and acquisitions, and project finance.

He also helps clients devise tax strategies related to private equity funds, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, real estate, and assists with customs matters, international matters (including double taxation treaties), and tax refunds.

One of his key attributes is the combination of his deep experience in transactional issues with his natural skill to determine whether some structures or business models may have grounds to be sustained before tax and federal courts.

Before joining Hogan Lovells, he was a leading partner at a renowned tax consulting firm in Mexico that the International Tax Review named Mexico Tax Firm of the Year, Latin America M&A Firm of the Year, Latin America Capital Markets Tax Firm of the Year, and Latin America Energy Tax Firm of the Year. Before that, he was in charge of the tax area of another firm in Monterrey, where he developed a tax and customs strategy to create a dry port in Nuevo León, as well as tax, legal, financial, and foreign trade for the construction of the towers of a power plant in Queens, New York.
