Position
Matthijs Driedonks is a partner in the Corporate/M&A practice at HVG in Amsterdam, where he leads the M&A practice group. He has a particular focus on:
- (Cross border) mergers & acquisitions
- Private equity transactions
- Joint ventures
- Corporate governance
- Due diligence
- Management buy-outs
Matthijs has worked extensively in M&A such as in the TMT sector (including for VimpelCom, CMI, Liberty Global and Talpa), the industrial sector (including for Aalberts Industries and Grafton) and the agriculture and food industry (including for Tetra Pak). In private equity he worked with various PE firms, including CVC, Bencis Capital Partners and Parcom. He also represents management teams in buy-outs.
Career
Before joining HVG, Matthijs spent almost 12 years in the international Corporate/M&A practice at Allen & Overy LLP. He spent over a year in the New York office of A&O, where he worked in the Banking team advising on acquisition financings and leaseback transactions.
Matthijs gained in-house experience during two client secondments at ABN AMRO Bank (in 2016) as a senior legal counsel to the Equity Capital Markets and Corporate Finance teams as well as at VimpelCom (in 2012) as senior legal counselĀ in the legal departments in Amsterdam and in Cairo, Egypt.

Matthijs graduated from Utrecht University (LL.M. in Dutch law) and Maastricht University (MSc in International Business Studies) in 2004 and 2002.
