Career

Koen De Maeyer has built up an extensive experience during his 30+ years career in Corporate (both acquisitions and restructuring in going concern and discontinuity), Commercial (franchising, distribution, throughput-, vessel- and vessel bunkering-, aircraft (engine) agreements etc.) and Real Estate (project development- and construction law related contracts) matters as well as in litigation in the aforementioned areas of practice.

Amongst others, he was in particular involved in different bankruptcy and restructuring teams (such as Sabena, Boelwerf, MG Rover Belux, real estate companies, (one) vessel companies, etc) as well as in acquisitions (in the area of insurance brokerage, sea port operators, real estate, windmill operators, Government of Mauritius (Port Louis Hub), shareholders buy out agreements, industrial equipment, etc) and advises on a regular basis regarding large and midsize real estate project development (such as a skyscraper project in Tirana, acquisition and renovation of an iconic landmark in Antwerp, hotel- and Brownfield (site Witte Lietaer, Hospital site Leuven etc) related renovation projects, office- and apartment buildings, nursing rooms and service flats).  He currently defends the interests of a party in the Arco litigation files, represented a construction company in the Gellingen gas explosion litigation, defended the interests of a container crane lifting system supplier against the Port of Lyon and Marseille, of a manufacturer of self-driving tramways against the Syndicat Mixte des Transports du Douaisis à Lille (France), represented a bank in the Ageas litigation in the ABN AMRO case  and defends on a regular basis the interests of director’s involved in liability claims amongst others following bankruptcy.  He also published articles in different areas amongst others regarding company law and director’s liability.
