Career

Bas is a corporate partner and one of the founders of Rutgers & Posch. He has a wide-ranging corporate, commercial and M&A practice, with a particular emphasis on corporate governance, joint ventures, stock exchange matters and activism defence. Bas is trusted legal adviser to some large international companies and he does a significant amount of work for listed companies and financial institutions.

Bas started his career at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, before heading the legal department of the Dutch rail operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen. From 1998 to 2013 he was a corporate partner at Houthoff. He has also served as a deputy judge at the District Court of Arnhem for ten years. Bas gives lectures for the Foundation for Professional Training of In-House Counsel (Stichting Beroepsopleiding voor Bedrijfsjuristen) and is a fellow of the Zuidas Institute for Financial Law and Corporate Law (ZIFO) of the VU University in Amsterdam. He regularly publishes on corporate governance and other matters of corporate law and is also a frequent speaker on these topics.
