Position

Tyron is a South African patent attorney specialising in domestic and international patent matters, particularly in the field of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, including the drafting, preparation and prosecution of patent applications.

He also assists with litigation matters related to biotechnological inventions and providing advice in respect of the Genetically Modified Organisms Act (“the GMO Act”), Plant Breeders’ Rights Act (“The PBR Act”) and National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA).

Career

Tyron heads up the Life Sciences department at Spoor & Fisher. He received his MSc Genetics (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria in 2004 and subsequently completed his LLB in 2008. He was registered as a patent attorney in 2009. Tyron has been a partner of Spoor & Fisher since 2013.

Author of the Patents chapter in “Dean & Dyer: Introduction to Intellectual Property Law” which was published in 2014.
