Position

Renato Giallombardo is a Partner of the firm and the M&A, Private Equity, Venture Capital Law Leader for EY TAX & LAW ITALY.

He joined EY in February 2021 after a 30+ years career at Gianni & Origoni – where as a Partner,  he held a number of senior roles including Managing Partner of the Bologna and Abu Dhabi offices, Head of Venture Capital, Co-Head Private Equity, and as MENA Region Coordinator.

A true Statesman of the profession with a strong network of clients and relations all over the world, he is widely recognized both nationally and internationally as one of the most senior Italian business lawyers – active since 1990 – and for his prominent work on numerous top level  M&A transactions throughout  his career – which has seen him close  200+ M&A and Private Equity matters in a variety of industrie including infrastructure, healthcare, food, motorways, airports, real estate, telecom etc.

Renato Giallombardo is recognized as a pioneer of the business law practice in Italy and today, as an active member of the EY team, as a disruptive and innovative lawyer giving a boost to a new way to interpret and manage the profession by integrating tools and services beyond the ordinary practice, meeting new needs and expectations of 4.0 clients.

Career

After 30+ years at Gianni & Origoni – Renato Giallombardo joined the EY TAX & LAW ITALY in 2021 with colleagues Luca Spagna, Anna Chiara Mastellone and Margherita Mercatali  (also former Gianni & Origoni lawyers) as well as other four junior members of the team

Renato has also been active outside of the tradition role of a lawyer – having been involved with a number of important advisory committees throughout his career such as:

• National Research Council Spin Off Committee
• Board of Directors of Turin – Lion Railways Infrastructure
• Joint Venture between UAE Ministry of Economy and National Research Council
• Board of Director of Centrale Latte Turin (Diary Company Florence/Turin)

Within EY TAX & LAW ITALY, he has actively contributed to organizing the Italian Law Summit and the first Italian Institutional Investors Roundtable in May 2023

Personal

enato and his team, some of whom he has worked with for 20+ years, have the ability, through EY cross service line integrated services, to manage the full process of an M&A deal – including valuation, financial, tax, legal, labour and esg due diligence, negotiations and closings including post-closing adjustments and PPA, offering to the market a unique opportunity of one stop M&A shop. Artificial Intelligence tools to scour the market for opportunities in Italy when clients ask for potential opportunities for acquisitions or investments on the peninsula.

The other area of interest currently being investigated by Renato Giallombardo are those new trends of legal work – including those markets where legal and financial work will massively increase in the future. Of note are those related to the space and the silver age economy, the impact of demography, the global water crisis and the hydropower and other natural sources which can be sustainably exploited, including Zero-CO2 challenges and opportunities.
