Position
Paul is a Partner in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department. He advises individuals and corporate clients involved in domestic and multi-jurisdictional contractual/tortious disputes and represents the Irish interests of a number of global corporations and Irish based entities. Paul has extensive experience of advising clients where issues arise involving financial litigation, which has included being lead advisor on behalf of two parties involved in separate Madoff related proceedings with an overall value in excess of USD$3.5bn.

It has an extensive history in corporate and regulatory matters, including M&A transactions and portfolio transfers, along with growth in insurtech, ESG and sustainable finance. The team primarily represents clients in disputes before the High Court, in addition to advising on acquisition and copyright issues. Fiona Barry and Paul Convery co-head the team; Barry has vast expertise in defamation matters at both the pre and post-publication stage for the print and TV sectors, and Convery focuses on disputes concerning telecoms and media.

The team is led by Garrett Breen, who has more than 30 years’ experience in dispute resolution and is a recognised leader in general commercial litigation, and partnership and shareholder disputes. The firm is frequently engaged in cases admitted to the Commercial List of the High Court, and, like others, the dispute resolution department has developed a greater focus on contentious regulatory matters. Paul Convery is another senior figure, who has appeared in a series of major sanctions-related cases and competition disputes. Fergus Doorly is noted for shareholder disputes, fraud and asset recovery cases. Managing partner Owen O’Sullivan is also rated for shareholder and investment disputes. Mary Cooney is an ‘up and coming star‘. Gerard James and Michelle Martin were promoted to partner in 2023. Lisa Carty has left the firm.

Laura Murdock has significant experience of handling complex multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes involving financial crime and jointly heads the team with Paul Convery, who specialises in shareholder disputes and reputation management issues.
