Career

Norman Hansen Meyer is a partner in our shipping, offshore and oil services team and has extensive experience with various charter parties, service contracts, management agreements, shipbuilding contracts, and EPC(I) contracts for the shipping, offshore and maritime industries. He has been involved in many shipbuilding and offshore construction projects worldwide and is also experienced with the sale & purchase of ships, sale- and leaseback and various other forms of shipping transactions. He also advises on marine insurance, transport law and logistics.

Norman has worked with shipping and offshore in Singapore and Australia and has significant international experience. In his role as a trusted advisor to several ship owners, charterers and yards, and by having been seconded to a large owner of FPSOs and a major operator of dry bulk vessels earlier in his career, Norman has gained a thorough and wide-ranging understanding of the industry. He is an external examiner at the University of Oslo covering maritime law and offshore construction contracts, and he also lectures at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law.

Norman has been a lawyer since 2007 and has previous work experience with other corporate law firms and Nordisk Defence Club (a mutual insurance club). He graduated from the University of Oslo (Master of Laws) and the University of Oxford (Magister Juris).

Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS has a ‘very well balanced team with great expertise‘, which advises insurers on both domestic and cross-border insurance matters, with particular focus on regulatory and transactional work. Practice head Klaus Henrik Wiese-Hansen is a ‘competent and business-oriented lawyer‘, who advises on a range of insurance matters, and frequently acts for life insurers, reinsurers, pension funds and insurance intermediaries. The group also includes Caroline Karlsson, who specialises in private M&A and transactional risk management issues; and experienced litigator Andreas A. Johansen, who has particular experience in pursuing claims for the insured under W&I insurance policies. Norman Hansen Meyer joined from Selmer in June 2023 and is experienced in marine insurance. Ellen Hjelset has now left the firm.
