In the heart of vibrant Johannesburg, The Legal 500 and CDH partnered to recognise and applaud the exceptional achievements of South Africa’s top in-house counsel, marking the launch of the groundbreaking GC Powerlist: South Africa 2024.

Taking the stage, Sara Maggi, deputy editor for The Legal 500 GC Powerlist Series, warmly welcomed attendees and shared key insights from the research process, setting the tone for the evening’s festivities.

Following Sara’s opening remarks, Brent Williams, CEO of CDH, addressed the audience, underscoring the pivotal role of general counsel in driving company success and participating in decision-making. He emphasised the crucial partnership between CDH and The Legal 500, extending congratulations to the remarkable legal talent present.

Next, Hermien Uys, general counsel and executive director at Vedanta Zinc International, discussed legal challenges affecting general counsel in South Africa and stressed the importance of unity within the legal community.

The evening concluded with a lively networking session, offering attendees an opportunity for engaging discussions. Against the backdrop of shared insights and new connections, the event embodied the spirit of celebrating legal excellence and fostering unity.
