The Chinese legal market remains resilient and dynamic in the face of ongoing tensions with the US. The impact of US tariffs on Chinese exports has left lawyers navigating an increasingly complex international trade landscape, which has in turn caused an influx of new firms entering the Chinese market to respond to the demand for legal support. Firms continue to be engaged in trade-related investigations, and increasingly advise on the concurrent rise of compliance and data protection laws.

The last year has seen a remarkable growth in the tech and pharma sectors, as regulatory reforms drive domestic investment. The volume of green and sustainability-linked lending continues to surge, alongside the appetite for renewable energy projects.

Chinese companies are crucial investors in Southeast Asia, especially in sectors such a digital infrastructure, clean energy, EVs, and local manufacturing, and are increasingly investing in the EU. Syndicated lending is now in the process of being adopted by Chinese lenders, as major Chinese banks put in place policies and procedures to streamline their processes for approving and administering syndicated loans, which will significantly impact how Chinese lenders lend globally in the future.

This awards process is based on Legal 500’s annual market-leading independent research, covering world-class full-service and boutique PRC firms as well as foreign law firms, many of which work in conjunction with PRC counterparts – each leveraging their unique strengths. Winners will be selected by a judging panel with deep knowledge across jurisdictions and practice areas.
