Event information

Date: Thu 26 Sep 2024 Time: 2.30pm - 6.30pm Venue: Baker McKenzie Rechtsanwälte LLP & Co KG, Schottenring 25, 1010 Wien, Austria

The Green Summit Austria 2024 marks The Legal 500’s first event in Central & Eastern Europe focused on discussing new roads to sustainability. Since tackling climate change is an increasingly urgent commitment, this event will bring together leading practitioners and in-house counsel from across the region, to discuss the legal sector’s commitment to a much-needed green transition.

During the summit, attendees will hear about how GCs have evolved their role and adapted their approach, in accordance with the growing emphasis on ESG policies, as well as what companies should be aware of, given the rise of ESG risks and opportunities in Austria and wider Europe.

The event promises not only high-profile speakers, but also plenty of time for discussion and debate on one the most important issues of our time, along with networking drinks to conclude the evening.

Agenda

2.30pm – 3.00pm Arrival and Registration

3.00pm – 3.15pm Welcome Address and Opening Remarks

3.15pm – 4.15pm The role of in-house legal departments in the accelerating transition to net-zero

In-house legal departments play a pivotal role in the swift movement toward achieving net-zero goals. They navigate through legal challenges, advise on science-based targets, and ensure transparency in carbon offsetting. With a focus on accountability and action, in-house counsel contribute significantly to their businesses’ commitments and sustainability efforts in the ongoing transition.

In this session we hear the in-house perspective, with GCs from a wide range of sectors and industries sharing their practical experiences and goals.

4.15pm – 5.15pm ESG and sustainability in 2024 and beyond: What are the expectations for companies, and what can in-house lawyers expect with the changing regulatory landscape in Europe.

More and more every year, in-house lawyers both need and want to stay on top of any new update on ESG and sustainability issues that concern them, whether it is new regulations, innovations, tools or trends.

Most recently, the evolving nature of ESG regulations have taken centre stage, presenting diverse challenges for most industries in the region. The changing ESG regulatory landscape in Europe is a key development for in-house counsel to anticipate, and this panel seeks to explore the expectations for companies and their in-house lawyers in navigating this changing landscape.
