Position

Federico Sutti is Chairman of Dentons’ Europe Board and Italy Managing Partner.

Federico has extensive experience in M&A transactions, particularly in the real estate sector, advising Italian and international clients on the acquisition of assets and portfolios, as well as relevant, complex developments. These include, in particular, some of the most prominent development transactions in the residential/office/retail (Aree Falck) as well as in the logistic sectors (Piacenza). In addition, he has carried out various brownfield transactions advising international investors operating in the hotel and/or office sectors.

Federico has also advised the lenders in the context of the most relevant development projects in Italy, including the Citylife and Varesine projects, among others.

His experience extends to the PFI/PPP sectors, where he has been pioneering the use of project finance techniques in the Italian and international infrastructure markets, with specific reference to the healthcare sector. In particular, he assisted the Veneto Region for several years. In addition, he advised the Ministry of Infrastructures in Turkey in relation to the development of the PFI structure model for hospitals.

During the last several years he has assisted leading banks, Italian companies and multinationals in various restructuring and refinancing matters. Among the largest the turnaround of Mezzaroma Group, as well as of Parnasi Group.

In November 2014, under the Prodi Law, Federico was appointed Commissionaire of Infocontact (a company with 1,800 employees operating in Southern Italy) by the Ministry of Industry.

Career

In 1997 Federico Sutti took the responsibility of the Milan office of Schürmann & Partner, becoming the Italian Managing Partner. Under Federico’s guidance, the firm grew and became the leading law firm in the Italian/German markets in 1999. In January 2000, he worked on the Italian side of the merger between Schürmann & Partner and the American Law Firm Coudert Brothers.

In 2003 he transitioned the entire Milan office from Coudert Brothers to the UK-based law firm, DLA Piper, who opened their Rome office later on in 2004.

In 2008 he became responsible for DLA Piper’s CEE region (Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania) and looked after the opening and coordination of the practice in Turkey.

Under Federico’s management, DLA Piper became the largest international law firm in Italy.

After more than 16 years as Country Managing Partner of the Italian practice, Federico became the firm’s Managing Director for Europe and Africa, coordinating in excess of 1,400 professionals and 1,500 members of the staff, and the head of institutional relations for the Italian practice till September 2015.

Federico was a member of DLA Piper’s Global Board (2005-2010), and a member of DLA Piper International LLP’s Board (2003-2006).

In October 2015 Federico Sutti joined Dentons Europe as Managing Partner, opening the Milan office. In June 2016 he also launched Dentons’ Rome office.

In 2018 Federico Sutti has become a member of the Board of Dentons Europe.

In 2018 Dentons has been awarded as “Italian law firm of the Year” at the Top Legal Awards.

In 2019 Federico Sutti has become a member of the Global Board of Dentons.

In 2023 he has been elected Chairman of the Europe Board of Dentons.
