Among several recruits joining the team, BonelliErede hired Milan-based Luca Perfetti from Villata, Degli Esposti, Perfetti e Associati; he has extensive experience in the telecoms, transport, real estate and environmental sectors. The team acted for La7 in a dispute involving the channel numbering of new digital television frequencies. Domenico Ielo, Cristina Mezzabarba and of counsel Salvatore La Porta are also recommended.

With more than 30 lawyers, Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners’ public law practice is one of the largest in Italy. The team advised Ital Gas Storage on the granting and management of a gas storage concession, obtaining building and operational permits, and challenging the Energy and Gas Authority over storage tariffs before the relevant administrative court. In Milan, zoning and tenders specialist Maria Grazia Lanero is ‘a top lawyer’, Antonella Capria and Teodora Marocco are environmental law experts, and Ottaviano Sanseverino Vimercati and the ‘business-orientedGiuseppe Velluto are energy and infrastructure specialists. One of the best firms around in this area’, Villata, Degli Esposti e Associati’s ‘overall level of service is excellent, including response times, industry knowledge, appropriateness of advice and strength-in-depth of team’. The team represented Edison before the administrative courts in several trials, involving industrial sites affected by environmental issues of national significance. Firm head Riccardo Villata has ‘unquestionable skills and a very good understanding of companies’ business priorities’; and Andreina Degli Esposti is ‘highly professional and totally competent, and his impressive manner when handling clients’ issues is truly appreciated’. Studio Legale Amministrativisti Associati’s ‘excellent team’ specialises in traditional fields of administrative law, such as town planning, construction, tenders, trade and environment. The team advised Accor Hospitality Italia (including litigation assistance) on the redevelopment of a hotel in central Milan. Managing partner Guido Bardelli is ‘excellent for town planning matters’, and Maria Alessandra Bazzani and Antonio Papi Rossi in Milan are also key contacts.

Milan-based Filippo Brunetti heads the team at Chiomenti Studio Legale. Highlights included Rome-based Francesco Scanzano advising RR Media Extrajudicial assistance on the tender procedure launched by Rai Way for the satellite transmission service of Raiworld’s signal in America and Australia.

Clifford Chance recently assisted Generali with a judicial review before the Administrative Court of Lazio and the Council of State concerning the annulment of sanctions imposed by the Italian Competition Authority. The key contacts are Milan-based team head Aristide Police and counsel Filippo Degni.

DLA Piper’s ‘strength is its highly sophisticated expertise, combined with top-class contractual assistance that is in line with the best international standards’. The firm hired Milan-based Germana Cassar from Macchi di Cellere Gangemi; her expertise includes electricity, public procurement, environmental, town planning and expropriation matters. Milan-based regulatory specialist Giorgia Romitelli, who ‘has strong strategic capabilities and is highly valued in complex transactions’, recently advised St. Jude Medical Italy on a contentious administrative law matter involving a public tender launched by ARCA – Azienda Regionale Centrale Acquisti for the supply of pacemakers and defibrillators. Other highly regarded advisers include Rome-based Francesco Cerasi and ‘very professional’ head of public finance Domenico Gaudiello, as well as Milan-based town planning head Guido Inzaghi, whose ‘assistance is crucial’.

Hogan Lovells Studio Legale’s regulatory litigation experience includes energy, environment, food and agriculture regulation, and pharmaceuticals, medical devices and healthcare reimbursement matters; it also acts on media, communications, education and transport-related issues. In Rome, the experienced Francesca Angeloni has ‘great client-oriented vision’. Rome-based Gaia Gelera and Milan-based Maria Deledda are key counsels.

Legance – Avvocati Associati is recommended for its expertise in public sector contracts, town planning and local development, as well as health and pharmaceutical law, public finance, and environmental matters. The team assisted Prelios Integra with its participation in a public tender. Rome-based public contracts specialist Filippo Pacciani and litigator Alessandro Botto are recommended along with real estate expert Giuseppe Abbruzzese in Milan.

Satta Romano & Associatiperforms complex matters in short time periods’. The firm’s experience covers public contract tender disputes involving the telecoms, public works and renewable energy sectors; arbitration; and public-private partnership contracts. Filippo Satta is founding partner; and Anna Romano, whose ‘key strengths are her experience and ability to read counterpart strategies’, defended Edenred Italia against Qui!Group’s appeal of a financing management contract award.

Studio Professionale Associato a Baker & McKenzie regularly acts in administrative proceedings and related disputes, as well as handling public contracts, town planning, environmental and energy matters. The team assisted Baxalta, a biopharmaceuticals company, with its participation in public tenders. Pierfrancesco Federici in Milan is highly rated.

Bird & Bird is recommended for regulatory advisory assistance and litigation, as well as state aid issues in sectors such as communications, defence, aviation and energy. Rome-based Simone Cadeddu is recommended.

At De Berti Jacchia Franchini Forlani, Rome-based Antonella Terranova advises on administrative and regulatory issues such as commercial licence applications, real estate and town planning; she has particular experience in the property and pharmaceuticals sectors. Fabio Ferraro and Milan-based Roberto Jacchia are key names.

Grimaldi SL LLP is well known for judicial administrative litigation. The practice handles approximately 150 new claims each year, with solid experience in environmental matters, urban planning, public services, public procurement and project finance. Sergio Massimiliano Sambri in Milan is recommended along with Francesco Sciaudone, who splits his time between Rome, Milan and Brussels.

LC&P – Lipani Catricalà & Partners has particular expertise in cases involving the disposal of hazardous waste. Its experience also covers litigation between public sector entities and private sector stakeholders, often in the context of public works or the utilisation of public loans. Damiano Lipani is highly rated.

NCTM Studio Legale’s practice advises on issues involving public procurement, highway concessions and subsidies, as well as public utilities, agriculture, and EU and public concessions. It acted for NTV Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori before the administrative courts in cases concerning the concession for a high-speed train service. The ‘very competent’ Giuliano Berruti is the key contact in Rome, with Marco Monaco being the name to note in Milan.

Pavia e Ansaldo recently advised Fendi on the implementation of an environmental and safety management system in company plants and stores. Rome-based Nico Moravia and Marco Giustiniani are recommended.
