Career

Robson Barreto focuses his practice in the areas of corporate law and mergers & acquisitions. With nearly three decades of experience handling complex international corporate transactions, he brings deep expertise in the telecommunications, technology, hospitality and natural resources industries. He also advises private equity funds and real estate developers across a variety of acquisitions related to shopping malls, hotels and other real estate developments. Major clients include Brunswick, General Growth Properties, Marriott, TIM, Eike Batista Companies and Riverstone/Carlyle.

Over his distinguished career, Mr. Barreto has counseled numerous corporations on significant transactions involving the acquisition of Brazilian companies and multinational corporations investing in Brazil. Clients frequently retain him to represent them in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and project finance transactions. Mr. Barreto also has advised several publicly traded and highly regulated Brazilian companies on follow-ons and share placements.

Early in his career, Mr. Barreto spent a year working as a foreign associate in Chicago with one of the largest global law firms. During his time working and training in Chicago, Mr. Barreto became involved with several information technology (IT)-related matters, including software regulation and telecommunications. He was then able to apply this unique experience for the benefit of clients in these fledgling industries in Brazil.

Repeatedly recognized by his peers for his significant knowledge and experience base, Mr. Barreto has been honored by Chambers & Partners, Latin Lawyer and Análise Advocacia in a number of practice areas. He also served as the Firm’s Managing Partner for ten years, during which time he was able to gain insights into some of the complex management issues faced by in-house counsel and brings this rare perspective to his work for clients.
