Campos Mello Advogadosis able to handle very complex real estate deals and transactions’, and ‘brings a certain edge to the table’. Despite another sluggish year in the Brazilian real estate market, the team was kept busy in 2017. In one highlight, Theo Keiserman de Abreu advised the Olympic Park Consortium on the lease of a site for the Rock in Rio music festival. Fabio Perrone Campos Mello heads the team, which includes ‘star individualBernardo Buarque Schiller; the ‘highly qualified’ Rafael Jordão Bussière; and Ivandro Ristum Trevelim, who combines ‘strong legal knowledge with a very sharp business orientation’.

Gustavo Padilha Advogados Associadosstands out’ for its ‘great knowledge’ and ‘hands-on approach’, with areas of expertise including property acquisitions, built-to-suit agreements, and transactions involving shopping centres. Among its recent highlights, Luciana Henriques Ismael and Michelle Ramos Garcia advised Trisul on the purchase of several properties and subsequent regularisation matters. Practice head Gustavo Pinheiro Guimarães Padilha and Luciana Campos Palermo attract particular praise, and Mariana Ferreira Neves Monteiro is another key contact.

Well-regarded firm PMKA Advogados covers the gamut of real estate matters, including property finance, M&A and litigation, with ancillary areas of practice including timberland investment and agribusiness finance. 2017 saw the team advise on several large transactions in the sector. Rafael Gobbi and senior associate Patrícia Monteiro advised Hemisfério Sul Investimentos on the acquisition – through a joint venture with Idea Zarvos – of a majority interest in a company which owns real estate in São Paulo. The sizeable team includes Fernando Maximiano, Alexandre Assolini Mota and Luis Peyser.

Demarest Advogados is noted for its ability to ‘work in partnership with the client’. Lucas Tavares Bueno is now the practice head, following the departure of Adriana Daiuto in 2017. The team handles a range of urban and rural real estate transactions, and has experience in agribusiness and forestry deals. Senior associate Henrique Anders advised Construdecor on the construction of a new store.

Duarte Garcia, Serra Netto e Terra Advogados is headquartered in São Paulo, but has an additional office in Brasília and cooperates with firms in key jurisdictions including Miami and Lisbon. It has established itself as a significant presence in the Brazilian real estate market, with experience spanning commercial and residential developments, property regularisation and litigation. Marcelo Terra is the name to note.

The ‘high-quality’ team at KLA-Koury Lopes Advogados has ‘a great level of specialised knowledge in real estate’. Its recent transactional highlights include advising Tegra Incorporadora, previously Brookfield Incorporações, on the acquisition of real estate in Goiás state, and it is also advising Iguatemi Empresa de Shopping Centers on several matters relating to the development and administration of mixed-use real estate enterprises. Marc Stalder, Rodrigo Pontes and Pedro Cortez all attract praise. Real estate associate Tomaz Matheus is also a member of the firm’s German desk.

The experienced real estate team at Lilla, Huck, Otranto, Camargo Advogados is ‘committed to quality’ and ‘presents the best alternatives’, and had another busy year in 2017. Rural land is a focal area for the department, with advice covering the sale, lease and regularisation of rural real estate. Practice head Estela Monteiro Soares de Camargo recently advised an investment company specialising in arable land on the regularisation of rural property in Piaui and Maranhão states. Thalita Duarte Henriques Pinto, Thomaz Henrique Monteiro Whately, Amanda Salis Guazzelli and Paulo Vitor Paula Santos Zampieri are also key figures in the sizeable team.

Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice Advogados has experience advising on the development of logistics centres, shopping malls, hotels, and residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, and acts for clients such as Cyrela Brazil Realty, Brio Investimentos Imobiliários and PSP Investments. Highlights included advising Equinix on the purchase of a data centre comprising two properties, and acting on the sale of certain forestry assets in Maranhão and Tocantins states; practice head Maria Flavia Seabra Gemperli led on both deals.

Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados acts for property developers, owners, investors and third sector, retail and hospitality clients. Recent work for Mariana Spoto Cobra includes advising Liga Solidária on the sale of property in São Paulo to a Brazilian real estate company. Founding partner Otávio Uchôa da Veiga Filho’s practice takes in real estate and family law. Rossana Fernandes Duarte, who draws on over 20 years of experience, has notable expertise in property finance transactions, and handles a host of other real estate matters involving urban and rural land.

Pinheiro Neto Advogados has experience across the gamut of real estate transactions and is equally proficient in deals involving rural and urban land. Its recent work includes advising Chinese client Fosun on the acquisition of Sucupira Tower in the Parque da Cidade complex in São Paulo; Luciano Garcia Rossi led the advice. Elsewhere, Franco Musetti Grotti advised Pátria Investimentos on the first investment of its new private equity investment fund focused on rural land in Brazil; the deal involved the purchase of a farm in Tocantins state. Senior associate Martina Zajakoff is another active member of the team.

The ‘accurate’ and ‘business-oriented’ team at Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown is regularly involved in big-ticket transactions. Its experience takes in real estate investments, built-to-suit agreements, securitisation transactions, property regularisation, and commercial and residential developments. As well as its work on large transactions, it also provides ongoing advice to clients such as GTIS Partners, which it assists in the leasing and management of several significant properties in São Paulo. José Paulo Marzagão leads the team and is recommended.

TozziniFreire Advogados provides ‘an excellent service’ and is particularly recommended for ‘complex deals, due to its experience and knowledge in the real estate market’. The firm complements its real estate expertise – in areas including hotels, shopping malls, and office, factory and distribution centre developments – with ancillary capabilities in M&A, tax, government contracts and administrative law. Among its work highlights, Pablo Meira Queiroz advised SBA Torres Brasil on the acquisition of Highline do Brasil Infraestrutura de Telecomunicações and a real estate subsidiary. Other names to note include ‘excellent attorneyVladimir Miranda Abreu, Paulo Augusto Furtado Mendonça and senior associate Ben-Hur Belmonte Neto.

Veirano Advogados has a buoyant practice, regularly advising new and longstanding clients on significant commercial and residential developments. Its extensive experience in the hospitality sector is a distinguishing feature; clients in this space include Hyatt Hotels, Hotelaria ACCOR and Hotep Hotéis e Empreendimentos Turísticos Perequê. Rodrigo de Castro acted as counsel to the latter in the development of a multi-purpose project in Rio de Janeiro state. Property litigation is another strength. Raphael Moreira Espírito Santo attracts praise and Gisela Alves de Melo Miranda is also a key contact; however, Ana Beatriz de Almeida Lobo has moved to SV Law.

With longstanding experience in real estate and construction, Amaral e Nicolau Advogados regularly advises clients on residential, commercial and mixed-use developments. In a recent example, associate Lumy Tahara advised M.A. Empreendimentos Imobiliários on a development initially comprising a supermarket, stores, a commercial tower and residential towers. José Vicente Amaral Filho and Júlio Nicolau Filho are the main partner contacts.

Cristiane Mamprin de Castro Guerra and Cristiana Moreira co-head the real estate group at BMA - Barbosa, Müssnich, Aragão and have extensive experience in urban and rural real estate deals, acting for a range of Brazilian and international clients. The team also stands out for the quality and experience of its senior associates, several of whom – including Gustavo Maia do Nascimento – have previous in-house experience in real estate companies.

CaselliNavarro Advogados’ real estate team post merger is co-led by Lucia Silveira Frias, who draws on 32 years of experience in the practice area; Alexandre Tadeu Navarro Pereira Gonçalves, whose practice combines real estate and tax law; and Juliana Rubiniak de Araújo, who is quickly establishing herself as a key name in the market.

The highly regarded practice at Goulart & Colepicolo Advogados provides a ‘high level of service’ to its clients, which include retail companies, real estate investors and large corporates. A team including Cristiano Silva Colepicolo is currently advising the Brazilian arm of a global real estate company on the acquisition of property in São Paulo. The ‘very reliable’ and ‘hardworking’ João Gilberto Freire Goulart has ‘great knowledge’ of the sector.

Stocche Forbes Advogados’ Alexandre Laizo Clápis has 20 years’ experience in real estate, with a particular emphasis on real estate registry law. He works alongside Fernanda Christina de Souza Rosa, whose broad practice takes in real estate and civil litigation. In 2017, her workload included advising Autonomy Investimentos on the acquisition of two companies which own logistics warehouses.

The three-partner practice at TCSA Advogados acts for real estate investors, retail groups, and construction and logistics companies. Keeping the team busy in 2017 was a steady flow of instructions concerning leases, acquisitions, real estate regularisation, and property developments. Ana Carolina Cavalcante and Aloisio Santini are advising Carrefour on various matters concerning 350 properties in Brazil.

Trench Rossi Watanabe is active in real estate and infrastructure projects and is noted for its ‘excellent’ service. In addition, it regularly assists its corporate clients – many of them household-name multinational companies – on the sale, purchase and leasing of property in Brazil. Lúcia Veloso Aragão heads the team and is recommended.

The multidisciplinary team at Azevedo Sette Advogados channels its broad expertise in real estate, corporate, infrastructure and administrative law to handle a range of transactional and other instructions. Leonardo Moreira Costa de Souza and associate Alessandra Lima Ganz advised GPA on lease and sublease agreements. In a significant development for the practice, Bruno Costa joined from Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice Advogados.

With over 20 years’ experience, Bicalho e Mollica Advogados has established itself as a key law firm in the Brazilian real estate and construction market, as well as handling environmental law matters and civil litigation. Rodrigo Cury Bicalho and Luciano Mollica are names to note.

At Cascione, Pulino, Boulos & Santos Advogados, founding partners Fábio Cascione and Marcos Pulino co-lead the real estate practice, leveraging their extensive banking and finance and capital markets experience to advise on regulatory issues, real estate and infrastructure financing, and securitisation. Senior associate Diego Gonçalves Coelho’s expertise includes the agribusiness sector.

Highlighted for its ‘timely responses’ and ‘exceptional work’, Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados acts for developers, investors and corporate clients in urban and rural real estate matters. Marcos Lopes Pradohas excellent negotiation skills when acting in the purchase and sale of commercial real estate’. He is noted for his business knowledge and technical expertise.

DDSA - De Luca, Derenusson, Schuttoff e Azevedo Advogados remains active in the agribusiness sector, where it saw a considerable amount of work during 2017 despite the slowdown affecting the broader real estate market. Luanda Pinto Backheuser heads the department, which also counts several hotel and retail groups among its clients.

Fernanda Costa do Amaral oversees the department at Felsberg Advogados, which is particularly strong in real estate finance. Leveraging the firm’s market-leading restructuring and insolvency practice, the team also advises on bankruptcy-related property matters and distressed sales.

Fabricio Barreto de Mattos heads the practice at Gasparini, De Cresci e Nogueira de Lima Advogados, which acts for Brazilian and multinational clients and is supported by the firm’s M&A, energy and environmental law departments. Timberland investment is a standout area, with Aldo de Cresci the key name.

Lefosse Advogadosstands out for its knowledge of the financial sector and its implications in real estate matters’. The team regularly advises on the real estate aspects of large corporate transactions and restructurings, and is also sought out for standalone real estate advice. Practice head Andréa Caliento is noted for her ‘hands-on approach and constant concern for clients’ interests’. Senior associate João Henrique Dias de Castro also attracts praise.

Lobo & Lira Advogados was founded in 2018 after former firm Lobo e Ibeas went through a restructuring. The team has a strong practice in the shopping centre segment, with an impressive track record advising on the development, restructuring and expansion of numerous malls across the country. Property litigation also features in its workload. José-Ricardo Pereira Lira, Juliana Zielinsky Yonenaga and Joana Maciel Ribeiro are key names.

Under the leadership of senior associate Daniela de Pontes Andrade, Lobo de Rizzo Advogados has notable experience in the sale and purchase of urban and rural property, and assists corporate clients on a range of construction and real estate matters.

Mannrich e Vasconcelos Advogados’ group is led by Daniel Cardoso Gomes, and is particularly active in the sale and acquisition of property in São Paulo. Other work includes property litigation and advice on leasing, financing and land apportionment. The team was bolstered by the arrival of Renata Rugna Vaqueiro from PMKA Advogados and Vanessa Lira Dantas from Bicalho e Mollica Advogados in 2018.

Boutique firm Pantano Advogados specialises in real estate and corporate law. It is led by Tania Pantano, who draws on 25 years of experience in these fields and advises clients on matters such as the acquisition, registration and development of land.

Pinheiro Guimarães – Advogados has a strong track record representing financial institutions as underwriters and arrangers in the issuance of real estate receivables certificates (CRIs). Plinio Pinheiro Guimarães Neto, Carolina Alonso and Bruno Lardosa have led on many of the department’s recent transactions.

Luis Gustavo Miranda and Fábio Appendino head the practice at Rolim, Viotti & Leite Campos Advogados, which has been active advising on land regularisation, real estate development, and acquisitions. The firm has ancillary corporate, compliance and infrastructure expertise.

With an extensive office network across Brazil, Siqueira Castro – Advogados has a national real estate practice, and the team is equally proficient in rural and urban property matters. Property litigation is a particular strength. Daniela Soares Domingues and André Frossard Albuquerque are key members of the team.

Areas of expertise at Souto Correa Cesa Lummertz & Amaral Advogados include commercial, industrial and rural leases, large construction projects and property litigation. Gilberto Deon Corrêa Júnior and Fábio Machado Baldissera are key contacts in the team, which has a diverse client base.
