It has been active in numerous energy sector disputes, and also represented Unilever in a case against a former logistics partner claiming indemnification, achieving a reversal of the previous decision. Luiz Fernando Henry Sant’Anna heads the team, which includes Celso Xavier, Rafael Gagliardi and Maria Helena Bragaglia. Marcelo Inglez de Souza is ‘greatly committed’, and ‘optimises the in-house counsel’s and executive’s decision-making processes’. Carlo Verona joined from Lefosse Advogados in December 2017, while Leonel Affonso Jr. left the firm.

The six-strong team at Demarest Advogados has ‘excellent knowledge’ and notable ‘negotiation skills’, with an excellent track record in disputes in the power sector. A recent highlight was advising Ferbasa on the acquisition of seven wind farms from Santander Investimentos, with a total capacity of 81MW and a value of R$811.7m. The team is also representing Energia Sustentável do Brasil in litigation brought by Agência Nacional de Águas regarding the mitigation measures of the Jirau hydroelectric power plant. Practice head Rafael Gagliardi is recommended along with ‘very helpful’ senior associate Raphael Gomes.
